Interview of Daniela Dimitrova with BEIED principals
"BUSINESS" magazine - June
Q: Dear Mr. Sedlik, Last week BEIED in cooperation with AMCHAM delivered a two-day seminar on: Leading the transformation to Organizational success- Nurturing a Dynamic Focus to Meet Customer Needs. Could you briefly review its focus and the partnership between BEIED and AMCHAM?
A: AMCHAM supported the business seminar at the urging of our BEIED Sofia manager, Nickolay Nickolov, and the Sofia BEIED staff. AMCHAM's mission includes a commitment to state-of-the-art managerial training. BEIED trains executives to implement the most proven and practical management tools. This BEIED program met the managerial development interests reflected by a survey of AMCHAM prospective attendees. AMCHAM's staff was exceptionally active and helpful in coordinating the event, recruiting the attendees, registering the attendees, and the delivering the two-day event.
The concept is to provide a very broad cross-section of the breadth of topics that BEIED delivers. As a comprehensive management development company, BEIED provides every managerial concept and skill development subject included within the most aggressive American MBA curricula. BEIED focuses on skill development and transformational knowledge that lead to operational effectiveness. Our mission is to enhance managerial competence in the international setting. Although we are academically astute, our passion is effective learning that people can employ.
Q: You and Dr. Miller were the trainers in it: could you present yourself and your partner to our readers
A: Dr. Dale Miler and Earl Sedlik have combines their extensive teaching and managerial experiences to develop the curricula and the delivery system to provide practical tools that managers can implement to enhance their competence and effectiveness. Miller, as an educational administrator led several American colleges during his illustrious career. Sedlik, as a career consultant and marketing manager, applied his experience to develop extensive MBA program curricula and course work with a practical approach. Both have focused on international educational and managerial training over the past 8 years. Our extensive experience in teaching managerial development courses leads us to provide and train others to deliver enlightening and entertaining programs that transform executive practices and insights.
Q: Tell us something about more about BEIED. How did it start, what are its mission, goals, the achievements, what are the main services it offers and its target audience? What about the future plans of BEIED?
A: We founded our company 3 years ago with the primary goal of providing western-style business education for managers in countries that are converting from a socialist system to a competitive market economy. We recognized the need for managerial development training as enterprises move to close the gap between the past and the future in these emerging economies. BEIED has established two teams - one in Sofia and one in Seattle.
Q: What about the educational and work experience background of the trainers within BEIED?
A: All BEIED instructors have advanced degrees and practical experience. Many are active entrepreneurs applying the concepts that they impart with insights that come through direct experience. All have a passion for personal interaction with dedicated learners. All BEIED professionals are dedicated to elevating the competencies of the learner.
Q: I attended your training, and it was very interesting to me although it gave us just a general idea of the main issues addressed. You just teased us to learn more about Organizational Leadership, Marketing, Sales Management, and the other topics of the training. Can we expect this course to be a beginning of a series of training courses to be delivered by BEIED in Bulgaria?
A: The BEIED Sofia seminar in May provided an overview of business management topics. We plan to offer a series of in-depth modules beginning in the fall, which will involve 20 hours of face-to-face direct instruction with active participation.
At the BEIED sponsored AMCHAM After Hours Cocktail Reception on May 20th, BEIED announced a managerial development program to be launched this fall in Sofia. BEIED will deliver two programs - Business Management Training for middle level managers and Advanced Management Training for key executives. Selected BEIED instructors of the highest caliber will lead each program.
The Business Management Training program consists of three certificate divisions - General Management, Marketing Management, and Financial Management. Each division, scheduled for completion in 6 months includes five modules of 5 week's duration. The Advanced Management program includes 7 modules and is scheduled for completion over a 9-month period. BEIED is currently taking applications from interested executives and their companies.
Q: What do you think of the reaction and feedback of Bulgarian and Eastern European trainees at the seminars you teach at in comparison to the reaction in Western Europe and the US?
A: Our team has taught management courses extensively in Western, Central and Eastern Europe as well as mainland China. We are consistently impressed with the intellectual quality of the Bulgarian mangers and their passion for learning. Candidly, the Bulgarian mangers are quite exceptional compared to the adult learners we have met all over the world.
What is your opinion of the economic development of Bulgaria and South Eastern Europe: in terms of main achievements and hardest challenges yet to follow?
As western businesses begin investing in Bulgaria, they will be very impressed with a well educated, hard working workforce as well as the wealth of natural resources your country has to offer. We see a very bright future for Bulgaria.
Q: So, you are interested in expanding further South East in Europe with your trainings. Why and how does the region appeal to you? What are in your opinion the strengths and weaknesses of Bulgarian managers and how should the Western Europe and US business education be adapted to the Bulgarian conditions?
A: Our interest in Bulgaria was sparked by our earlier experiences there. We found that the Bulgarian managers are extremely motivated to learn new ideas on how to improve their organizations to be more efficient and competitive in an ever-increasing competitive business environment. We have learned that the managers are very well aware of the challenges they face. The looming prospect of EU membership will propel them to creatively build toward successful economic prosperity ahead.
Thanks for the interesting seminar and the interview
All the best
