Harvard Lecturers Will Provide Training for Managers
"Dnevnik" daily, May 25, 2004
The 6-month course in Sofia will cost EUR 2 500
Instructors from Harvard, Stanford and other prestigious American universities will provide training for managers in Bulgaria, in Sofia and namely how to apply business management strategies. This information was consigned by Nickolay Nickolov, Development Director of BEIED (Business Education for International Economic Development). The company is active for 12 years now and works in the sphere of consultancy and organizing training courses. Training courses for CEOs of companies will start in October and includes marketing and business planning topics, strategic marketing and business structuring. "The course represents a higher level of knowledge, acquired at the university and aims to show the American experience, put into practice" says Nickolov.
The initiative is targeted to people with economical education and management background. The fee for the six-month period of training is 2, 500 EUR. Companies in Bulgaria have already gained the experience necessary, but are slow in about qualification of managers and a team, as a whole, says Nickolov. In his opinion, the reason for this is insufficiently high level of university education and the lack of students` practical experience.
BEIED also organized a two-day seminar for management skills development, and about 50 managers of leading international and Bulgarian companies joined the event. Some of the seminar topics: organizational planning, recruitment and staff training, marketing, financial management and others. According to Dr. Dale Miller, who was one of the lecturers at the seminar, Bulgarian managers face their greatest obstacles when managing and recruiting employees. "The lack of strategic planning is another serious disadvantage at some smaller companies. Some of them do not even apply the basic scheme: goals - analysis - strategy - control, which obstructs its activity", says Miller. The success formula for a manager is "competence, likelihood and trust". Even CEOs of the biggest companies must be near their employees, to constantly analyze competition and follow their clients` needs, as well as being capable of listening to piece of advice", says the expert.
According to Nickolay Nickolov, another challenge for companies in Bulgaria is joining the European Union and new rules expected to operate. In order to survive among strong competition, companies need to promptly adapt and increase the standard of their activities, is Nickolov`s recommendation, connected with the joining process, forthcoming in 2007. One of the goals of BEIED is to instruct companies in Southeastern Europe about requirements of international market. BEIED also cooperates with selected colleges and universities, providing business education programs in the region.
The organization will establish a training program for students and they will obtain knowledge and skills at preferential fees, says Nickolov.
